Ecolink Z-Wave Plus Wireless Motorized Toggle Light Switch

This motorized smart switch sits on top of a normal light switch and controls it mechanically. It has distinct versions for toggle-style switches and rocker-style switches, as well as for single-gang and double-gang switches.

This product is similar to the Switchmate Snap-On Instant Smart Light Switch. Unlike its Switchmate competitor, its installation requires removing the dumb switch's plate and screwing the smart switch in its place. I personally like it better that way as I find it gives a neater finish. Another notable difference with the Switchmate product is that it uses Z-wave instead of BLE, which should give it a better range.

I found the device's installation process to be quick and straigthforward. The switch can be toggled manually without the motor being involved, and doing so feels oddly satisfying.

I bought the double-gang toggle version of that switch. At the time of writing (March 2023), I have been using the device for nine months. My only complaint so far is that I had to change the batteries twice already, but this is probably to be expected with a motorized device. It might be better to use rechargeable batteries with this device. After a few months of usage, the switch reaches a stage where it is still able to report its state to Home Assistant, but cannot be remotely controlled anymore — then is the time to change the batteries.

Below is a short video showing the switch in action:
